Sensology

I normally don't go for experimental animation (or experimental jazz) but I found this clip to be mesmerizing.  It's by animator and auther Michel Gagné, whose style you may recognize, if from no other place than the visualizations of flavors in Ratatouille. He also had a hand at designing some of the VFX in The Incredibles. He's got a wonderful sense of design, timing, and entertainment, all of which come through in this short clip. You can learn more about Michel and this clip over on Cartoon Brew, where I found it.  I suggest you watch it full screen in a dark room, and turn it up!

  3. Wow, very cool...looking forward to sharing with my husband.

Love your blog. Oddly enough, I was doing an online search for the Pixar Zoetrope as I had heard about it in a piece on NPR about the current exhibit in Oakland (we're hoping to attend soon). Your post on the NYC exhibit was the first result and I got a kick out of seeing your name as we met once many years ago when you were roommates at UCI with my then boyfriend, Mark C. I believe four of us made my first (and only) trip to Tijuana that weekend. Anyway, I have a great longterm memory and remembered meeting you. I have kept in touch with Mark over the years and I seem to recall knowing you did the ever-popular Alien Song, but now that I have children, I am on an intimate basis with all things Pixar, so it is fun to know of someone instrumental in the movies we love. Congratulations on all your success with your art!
