  1. TVPaint!! : ]
It's bitmap, it's way more than just line drawing, you can paint and build amazing brushes, animated brushes, do crazy things.. you name it. It has very powerful tools for a 2D app. I use it for drawing, painting, not just animation. Working with keys is also great and the closest thing I found to 3D [I think 3D apps make much more sense when it comes to moving keyframes around and such..].
I also wish it was a bit more.. standardized and user friendly, with a more intuitive and efficient UI. It takes some time to learn and get used to.
But it's an amazing 2D animation software, the best I've ever used, by far. And I guess I've tried them all.. : >

  2. TV Paint is great, but it's also very expensive if you get the pro version (which has a lot of the key features you're going to want). It also requires a dongle. I think it would be great to have a fresh approach to an animation UI and hopefully at a price point that is more attractive to students and hobbyists.
