Tokyo Mater!
I can finally talk about the 4th (and most ambitious) Cars Toon: Tokyo Mater! Just like the previous 3 Cars Toons (which are now in rotation on all the Disney Channels, including HD), these are Directed by John Lasseter and Co-Directed by Rob Gibbs and myself. The difference is that Tokyo Mater is a 6 minute theatrical short that will be playing in front of Bolt starting this Friday, December 12th. And it's in 3D! And we made it only 5 months, but it looks amazing! And it's got drift-racing! And it was crazy hard to do! And it has an awesome techno soundtrack by BT! And BT played at our wrap party! And - zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.....
Anyway, I'm on hard-earned vacation now, and I look forward to seeing Tokyo Mater with a real audience this Friday. I hope to see you there, too! In the meantime, check out this article on ComingSoon.net, and here's a nice review on AintItCoolNews.

oh, man. can't wait, If i can ever catch them on tv. Hopefully we can just click on a magical link so we can see them in order.
ReplyDeleteMy 6 year old son is going to go absolutely nuts with this...WE LOVED CARS!!!
ReplyDeleteThat picture is KILLER. We're taking a whole crew on saturday to see it here in Nashville.
ReplyDeleteCan't Wait!!
Went to see Bolt a second time today and saw the short!
ReplyDeleteI liked it. Good job!
I went to see Bolt a second time with Family in tow. Sat down just as this was starting. I had no idea what to expect as it was not shown when I originally saw Bolt. This was a fantastic surprise. As someone who loved Tokyo Drift and Cars it was like a match made in Nerd Heaven. I have been craving to watch it again. Do you know when I can grab it off iTunes or anywhere else? Fantastic job and maybe Cars 3 can be a spin off of this short, I know I would watch it twice and buy the dvd. ;)
ReplyDeleteIs there anywhere else we can watch this short? I went to see Bolt (largely to see Tokyo Mater) and they didn't even show the short much to my disappointment.
ReplyDeleteBrandon, sorry but there's no where else you can see it. I don't know why it wouldn't have been in front of Bolt. Probably the projectionist didn't do his job. Hopefully it will be on DVD someday...
ReplyDeletei was wondering if you could tell me the names of the song witch are played there ???
ReplyDeleteKerstin, I don't know if the tracks have names. They are all original compositions by BT, and I don't know if they will ever be made available for sad. It's a shame, I know!
ReplyDeleteThe song at the end is an actual song. The song is a korean song, but the title escapes me. :p
ReplyDeleteI still looking for the title of the end credits song. Does anyone know?
ReplyDeleteAs I said, the songs are all original for the soundtrack, and have not been released to the public, much less named.
ReplyDeleteVic, we need the music. We have kids. They need to listen over and over again. Plus it's cool. Seems to me there's merchandising money to be made ...!
ReplyDeleteValerieDJ, I wish I could help you! You'd think Disney would jump on an opportunity to make money. When the DVD eventually comes out, maybe it will include music-only tracks. Incidentally, Tokyo Mater will be showing again on the Disney Channel on Friday March 12th around 8pm. Check your local listings!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the reply and the heads-up about Tokyo Mater, Victor - much appreciated.:)
ReplyDeleteThis might be a pretty appropriate soundtrack when you're out driving either for a road trip or for the heck of it. I seriously need to get a car soon.

i love the soundtrack.. maybe if someone can extract it from the HD movies, it will be great..
ReplyDeleteI am dying for the the music to this too. Full length ones of course. Maybe we should all send a letter to disney. We are not the only ones looking for these songs, tons of people are.
