VES Awards
So Candy scooped me on this, but it's only fair since she ended up stuck at home with the kids. It was a great night for all of us Pixarians, and a real honor to be recognized by the VES. Neat trophy, too! The official category name was "Outstanding Animated Character in an Animated Motion Picture" and I shared the award with Designer Jay Shuster, Modeler/Articulator Austin Lee, and legendary Sound Designer Ben Burtt (Ben couldn't be there since he was accepting a lifetime achievement award at another ceremony). WALL-E also won for Outstanding Visual Effects in an Animated Motion Picture and Outstanding Animation in an Animated Motion Picture. Right after I received the award I came down with a messy stomach virus which kept me in my hotel bathroom for the rest of the night. I just don't have luck with my health at awards ceremonies. Sorry to anyone at the Century Plaza Hotel who had to clean up my mess!
It looks like WALL-E just nabbed the Oscar for Best Animated Feature, too, so it's a good weekend for us. Thanks to all who left nice comments!
Awesome Victor, just awesome. Congrats! I can't wait to see what you guys do next.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!!
ReplyDeleteI really love your work.
Keep it up!

ReplyDeleteCongrats Victor! Super happy for you. Wall-E was an amazing film. Well done sir.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to you, Mr. Navone, and to the entire Pixar crew! You certainly deserved that award.
ReplyDeleteCongrats you guys! :)
ReplyDeleteHUGE kongrats!!!
ReplyDeleteBam!
ReplyDeleteCongrats, Victor! - Jen Mah
ReplyDeleteCongrats Victor!
ReplyDeleteCongrats!
ReplyDeleteWell deserved (the award not the stomach virus)!
Yay for Wall-E and for Victor! I can't wait to see "UP' and what you guys have come up with for that. :) Seems like Pixar is getting better and better with their animations and ideas. With the help of Pixar (methinks) Animation has come along way in the Oscars and other award ceremonies.
ReplyDeleteAlso congrats to the other designers who shared the award as well. So exciting!
FANTASTIC!!!
ReplyDeleteWay to go Victor! Can't think of someone more deserving. BTW someone else 'leaked' the news as well but preferred to remain anonymous.

Hi Victor, Christian Argueta here from Reality Check days, Congratulations on a well deserved award. I'm sure it won't be the last. I don't know how else to contact you, but I wanted to know if you'd be interested in doing this: http://animatorlounge.blogspot.com/2009/02/questions.html. I know you're a busy man, but I wanted to see if I could get the ball rolling with you. Thanks and again, congrats!
ReplyDeleteHey Victor,
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the award!
I can't remember if you said you'd be working on "UP!" or not...
Thank you all! Especially great to hear from my old Presto-era homies, James Rochelle and Casey Steffen! What's up, guys??
ReplyDeleteWhoah, I just noticed Hook there, too! How's it going Eric? We go waaaaaaaaayyyyyy back.
ReplyDeleteChristian, good to hear from you too. I followed the link - that's a lot of questions! I can't commit to answering them now. I'm pretty slammed with teaching and work, and we're moving into a new house in March, so life is crazy.
ReplyDeleteJames N. - I did one little shot on Up. I was busy with Cars Toons during most of that production.
Congrats Victor!!!! Very well deserved indeed. I'm usually right when I try to guess which scenes you've been working on. It's the subtle, but awesome little quirks you add to your characters and very clever physical humor. Congrats on the Oscar too, must be nice when all the hard work pays off:)
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend,
-Hans
Congrats Victor!
ReplyDeleteVES AND Oscar - that must have been a great weekend:-)
Ellen

ReplyDeletei would say, its just the beginning ! just that the virus stops following you from now on ! :-)

Hey Victor. Missed you at the Presto Reunion/BioSuit thing in San Diego in Jan. I was great seeing a lot of people I hadn't seen for several years. The Persian food after was awesome! Hopefully we can meet up sometime/someplace soon. I absolutely love the stuff you've been working on - as do my kids.
ReplyDeleteYou all definitely deserve this award! Wall-E was amazing!
ReplyDeletePixar always produces high quality work and they have the creative & technical staff to keep doing so.
Haha! Yes, it is good to have dropped by Victor, seems like a lifetime ago since I've seen ya. I miss your inspiring presence! I'm doing great, working at Sony Online and freelance like always. Missed you at the Presto thingy, and this Sat. oddly enough I was hanging out with Trish Dallaire, and Scott Benefiel...now there's a blast from the past. Lol!
